A Smiling Buddha, News and Auspicious Times
Many of you will know that my “day job” is promoting the books written by others. I have found it to be a very different experience promoting myself and MY book. It feels weird yet, strangely, satisfying to share the experiences of my authors. I have especially enjoyed sharing the gratitude with the many wonderful contributors to my book – you can see a selection of Thank You Memes in the slideshow below.
Last Sunday I had the pleasure of having lunch with don Miguel Ruiz, Jr, one of the contributors to my book. He is such a lovely man – he reminds me of a young, smiling Buddha – and is possibly the best hugger I have ever met! There was a TV set in the restaurant and when the San Diego football team got a touchdown he rose with a yell and a cheer! Thank you, don Miguel, for your lovely company and a wonderful lunch.
I had some fun on Facebook this week as “Doctor Kim” when I invited you to step into my consulting room where I’d use my photographs to cure you of your celestial phobias – some people really are afraid of the sun or the moon. Isn’t that sad?
I have some exciting news to share with you. I have heard a rumour that my book might be part of a holiday advertisement in the New York Times Book Review, along with the new Kirk Douglas book we are publishing (and which I’m working very hard on now). It’s hard to believe that taking photographs from my terrace could lead me to be in such esteemed company!
This coming week marks the sweetness of the Jewish New Year which couldn’t have come at a better time for me and my book project. It’s considered an auspicious time in the universe, a time of new beginnings, of renewal and rejuvenation, and the perfect time to launch something new into the world. So, I feel blessed times a billion for this opportunity to share something I love. A fledgling hobby that found its way into something tangible like a book that incorporates so many things that I love: nature, the ocean, beauty, inspirational words and people I love and admire. It might as well be Thanksgiving, but it is for me just about every day when I look out from my terrace in the morning.
Before this rant turns into a festival of sappiness, let me wish each and every one of you auspicious days and magical moments, and most of all lots of love in your life. And, certainly, may it always be interesting.
